Internships
Internships are a great way to gain experience in the field you want to pursue for your career. SAVE Dade is Florida’s largest local LGBTQ political advocacy group; the range of responsibilities and activities that we participate in is vast and has a sizable impact on the LGBTQ community in Miami-Dade County.
This internship is for students currently pursuing a college degree. We accept students from all academic majors. We’re particularly looking for students who are aware of issues affecting the LGBTQ community at a national, state, and local level; students who have a background in political activism or non-profit work are strongly encouraged to apply.
The internship is unpaid; students may receive college credit for their internship.
We will be offering internships in five fields:
- Communications: Interns in this position will work on the marketing, communications and press for SAVE Dade. You will help write and edit content that will reach the local community, our members, and the media through our various channels, including print, e-mail, and social media. Strong writing and communications skills are a must. Communications, english, marketing, advertising and public relations backgrounds are preferred.
- Field: Interns in this position will help with political campaigns that SAVE Dade is directly involved with. You will work with our SAVE Dade staff, local politicians and electoral candidates in our campaign efforts for candidates seeking public office that have been endorsed by SAVE Dade for their pro-LGBTQ stances. Political science, public policy, and public affairs candidates preferred.
- Policy: Interns in this position will work with our SAVE Dade staff to help identify local issues and work on local initiatives that benefit the local LGBTQ community, such as our Business Equality Index, Municipal Equality Index and our voter registration efforts. Backgrounds in social work, sociology and anthropology preferred.
- Development: Interns in this position will help with the fundraising efforts of SAVE Dade. You will work directly with SAVE Dade board members and the finance committee, as well as local businesses and learn how to effectively raise contributions that are greatly needed to help support LGBTQ equality. Business backgrounds preferred.
- Special Events: Interns in this position will work with our SAVE Dade staff, board members, and events committees to help plan and promote the various events that SAVE Dade holds every year, such as the Champions of Equality Awards Reception and Silent Auction and Hellrotika. Public relations, marketing, communications and hospitality backgrounds preferred.
Please email a resume and cover letter stating your desired internship, dates of availability, and and if you would like to receive academic credit. savedade@savedade.org
